But you have to trip the loop and transfer it to the standing part, which is holding the weight. I have bionic hands, more like claws, and can do things like hold a loaded loop open with one hand, but some folks may have trouble.

I see said the blind man, as I picked up my hammer and saw ... regardless of how many wraps you're still holding the hammock weight ... I'm playing with the knot now and will be using it ... again Thanks for sharing !!

Ok. Now before we get too far along I vote that we give this knot a name people can remember.

    How about...Hammock Bowline?

if you are going to put the extra wrap around the tree (aka a round turn) then just use a couple half hitches where the second hitch is slipped - before I used WS this was my method of securing the hammock to the tree - a "round turn and two half hitches" worked fine - the adjustability for me was actually at the end of the strap connected to the hammock - I used a single ring with a girth hitch where the girth hitch was easy enough to adjust and also acted as a drip point

Originally, it was a way to safely 'bow tie' a horse...

I would prefer to call it Mors Bowline.

The old shellback I used to work for always said, "Three round turns on a square post will hold anything, and a baby can hold the bitter end."

Tough to find square trees, but it almost works with round ones!
