Almost all the hammocks sold are in the 10' range. And most folks are at or near 6'.

Longer can be more comfy, but also consider that your tarp will need to be longer, and pack weight/bulk will be more. So theres a trade off.
Wow gargoyle check this out. I used the sheet bend to dial in the right length. Gave my self some seam allowance, and sewed a new channel / rolled hem. whipped the ends hung it up and measured. Now I said I am between 5'5" and 5'7" in height. The hammock turned out to feel right (without measuring) at 116" which is right at my height plus 4 feet. I guess this time, Its just meant to be. Im gonna go take a nap..

Sonic, glad you hit it right. Thanks Gargoyle for that tip. Now I've got a better idea of what to do with my DIY that's in the works. As always, HF is a good place to hangout and learn things!

I hear ya. That's one of the main reasons I prefer basic gathered end hammocks.

Thats my dog Lula Bell. She is a crazy smart golden retriever. She can turn the lights off when I say, "get the lights". She is a great watch dog. I always know when something is going on outside. From little rabbits, to big black bears, she always knows something is up.

Thanks man, I've seen some of your work as well, not shabby at all. Let me know if you ever want to take a family trip to the west coast.

The weird part was, I dialed it in without measuring, just by the feel of it using sheet bends (like chicken wing suggested), and it just so happens to be exactly 4 feet longer than I am tall.

My favorite part of sleeping outside, is watching the stars as I fall asleep. Just being able to flop around the other way gives you way more view.

There is a formula, I believe (and I could be wrong on this) your height + 2 feet + 27 inches = hammock body material length before hemming.

Of course everyone is different and I started with material nearly double my height for my hammock. HYOH

I think that is just about what I ended up with. Height plus 4 feet and some seam allowance. I have spent a couple of nights in the Dream Sail, and I like to have my feet a couple of inches (if not one) higher than my head. She is dialed in quite nicely. I do think I will take the 3000 off then name.
If your making a hammock, and you want a good length to start out at. Make it longer than your height plus 4 feet and your seam allowance so you can trim it down with sheet bends. Made me happy anyways. Thanks for all yall's help on getting her dialed in. The Dream Sail will be skimming the waters of my dream world tonight.
