DIY Hammock - Help me get the right length

I made my first DIY hammock out of 1.5oz ripstop. I love the material. However, it seems a bit too long. The total length is 125" with it all whipped on the ends. I am between 5' 5" and 5' 7". I started with 132" plus a little seem allowance. Anybody got any tips on getting the perfect length?

with your hammock being longer, try a sheet bend on either end at shorter intervals to find your sweet spot length then cut it down to that length or make your next one based on the new dimensions.

For my height of 6'2", I've settled on 126" of raw fabric. After the hems/channels at the ends are sewn it's about 120" long. Using the Warbonnet style gather (knob) takes off a couple more inches.

For your height, 132" of raw material is a bit much. I'd suggest starting with 120". The good thing is you don't need to start from scratch. Just cut material off one end and hem it again.

longer=more comfortable, flatter lay-----------Im pretty tall and both of my hammocks are extra long!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

I will try that. Thats a great idea. I figured there might be a simple math formula out there, like a percentage above ones height type of thing. Here are some pics of what I have so far. I slept in it last night. It was awesome, but, just seems a bit excessive. Its longer than my blackbird. I feel like I could get the same lay in a shorter, lighter version. I will definitely try the sheet bends.

I do like the comfort of the extra length. I slept great last night. It just seems like a bit much.

Thats one of the reasons I made it too long. Just to know I can always shorten it. I will bet Im going to end up with it around 118. I am about to do some more tinkering. Thanks for your video knotty, it was a huge help.

Sonic, that's some good-looking stitching on that hammock. Nice place to set up as well. Keep us posted on how the adjustments go.

Thanks chickenwing, I followed the lines on the ripstop. The stitches are only one square apart. Makes for some nice tight and straight stitching.

Height + 4' + seam allowances, seems to be a standard acceptable length.
Almost all the hammocks sold are in the 10' range. And most folks are at or near 6'.

Longer can be more comfy, but also consider that your tarp will need to be longer, and pack weight/bulk will be more. So theres a trade off.
