It's always best if your an early riser!
I have thought about doing a section hike that week from Harpers Ferry and hike through
the Maryland section (about 50 miles Total) 4-5Days.
Still confirming plans since my son lives in Harrisburg area and we could visit with him for Turkey Day I would be Solo and my wife would stay at Son's place after dropping me off
Might see you there
I have only hung solo and only three days so far
What does the weather tend to be like during those times of the year?
and how plentiful is safe water supply?
I am still tweeking of course (NOOB)

Ok, we are only going to be there for the overnight but if you make it that would be great! The water source at the shelter, is usually dry (non-existent) , but, there is great water (piped) in front of the bathrooms/soda machines in the park (you pass right by it when on the AT hiking through the park!
As far as weather is concerned, years past it has been cold and wet, but my memory stinks! Best thing to do is pay attention to the weather report and last minute before your hike (or leave the house for hike) check the forecast! That is what we are going to do, and are just going to plan our meal around the weather! If it is going to be super nasty out, we will go out and get something to eat then come back and camp near the shelter! If the weather is going to be nice/clear we will grill something at the shelter, just haven't decided if it's gonna be steak and potatoes, or ???
Either way hope you are able to at least make it out for your hike, I have done the MD section and there are some beautiful views, that and if weather is clear some of the views can be truly AWESOME!
Enjoy your time out!!

As I sit here in work dreaming of Tuesday to come. I thought I'd give this thread a bump. So far it's looking like me, Cranky Bear and a few friends from his Fire Dept. As mentioned before all are welcome.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
Alas, I have work on Wednesday.
Gonna be up at Crampton Gap tonight (waiting for the last bell to ring so I can hit the road!).
Cranky Bear, you might want to call the park. They may shut down that water and close up the bathrooms for the season. I kinda remember one early spring MAHHA, they had port-a-potties next to the bathrooms because they close up the bathrooms during winter so the pipes don't freeze up and burst.
Would be worth a call. Then you'd know whether to bring extra water. I always put a cooler of water in my truck just to be on the safe side at Gathland.
