Packing Closed Cell Foam Pads ?

So how do you attach/pack your closed cell foam pads to/in your pack. I just got a Speer SleepPad and rolled up it is pretty thick. I cut it down to 28"x70" from 42"x82".

I am either going to attach it to the side or fold in half, roll up, and put inside bag next to sleeping bag.

Any suggestions?

Either way you described is fine. CCF won't absorb water, so no harm carrying it on the outside of your pack.

OK. It is so light, but a tad big. ~9oz now

Will creating a crease when folding in half harm the pad?

Yeah, I am surprised too. I just got it today and went for it. On Speer's website it says most people need 24" wide and large people need 30". I am 6'1" @ 205, so I thought 28" wide x 70" long was a good size. I also rounded the edges.

I think I am strapping it to the outside. It is just too big to place inside.

No, but I wouldn't 'press' the crease either.

I've folded a Speer pad before, without harm.

I folded an Oware evazote pad, it was pretty thick rolled up.

I trimmed my pads 28in wide, they keep my shoulders nice and warm. You might want to taper the pad from the waist down, it fit better inside the hammock. Just don't take too much at first. Don't discard your first offcut, that make several pot cozys.

Yeah, I have a good bit left over. I think I am going to trim my wife and I a sit pad.

How I do enjoy ordering a new expensive piece of gear only to take the knife to it right out of the package.
