    Anyone use Kevlar cord?

I'm switching all of my guylines for my tarp, and came across kevlar line. It seems perfect. A 1mm braided cord has a 200lb breaking strength, low stretch, great knot retention, weather-fire- and chemical resistant.... I was curious if anyone else has used it and how it worked out.

I have used it, but not for a tie-out. I used it to wrap my Heinie pot. It works pretty good for that, and In a pinch, I have plenty of survival line on my pot.

I used to use it for stunt kite lines. If you knot kevlar, it cuts itself, so you need to sleeve the end of the line in hollow-braid dacron before tying the knot. It can also be spliced. 200 lb. may be stronger than you need for tarp tie-outs anyway, so derating the line may not matter, but I'd use something else.

Kevlar doesn't have very good UV resistance, either. When used outdoors, it's normally covered with a jacketing fabric/fiber or coating to block UV rays. Without the protection it degrades and weakens.

EDIT: now I went looking, and found this Amazon /Kevlar-Survival-Cord-Rope which says it's coated, can be used for guylines, etc. Good luck!
