I'm fixin' to make a wearable top quilt with a head hole, a la JRB. I found the directions on how to do it, but I'm curious if there is any significant heat loss through the hole. If I'm envisioning correctly, essentially the omni-tape area is like a sewn-thru spot; is it detrimental to the quilt's temp rating? I've heard nothing but praise for wearable quilts, so I don't foresee a problem, but I'm still curious. Thanks in advance.
I had a sniviller and I couldn't even tell it was there.
I have the stealth and have not had a problem with heat loss from the head hole......
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
If the hole is along the same line as one of your baffles, you could add a piece of your shell material the same width as your baffle height and make a collar. This would prevent having to compress that general area.
This may be overcomplicated for minimal gains, though.
I'd say I'd have more loss from the hole in the footbox than the headhole. I stick a sock in the hole in the footbox of my No Sniv. I don't do anything with the headhole except make sure that it is closed.

Thanks for the input. I just wanted to hear it from some owners. Head hole it is!
I've made two wearable quilts and have had zero heat loss through the head hole.
I simply replace what would be a baffle with the omni-tape. So, there's really no effect.
BTW, I like Arrowhead Equipment's omni-tape. It's a bit lighter than JRB.
