May I suggest Forest Glen FP down by Danville. It has a 11 mile loop for those of you that wish to backpack. There are two camping areas with plenty of trees, complete with out houses (one is pretty nice and one is pretty nasty ) fire pits, tables and garbage cans. It is possible to park reasonably close to the camping areas and not walk more then two to three miles tops, maybe even closer. I believe I've been there three times and have never had others camping at the same time. It was in colder months like now. Don't believe I will be able to make it, but will keep an eye on this thread just in case. If you decide to go there I'll fill you in with a few details.

I've been to Forest Glen a lot, it's a nice place. Actually, I have a hike-umentory of doing the backpacking trail

The $15 is for the tenting sites. They have one area (no electric, no RVs) that is really quite nice. They frown on having anything attached to the trees though. They are much better sites than what's available at the near-by Kickapoo State Park, and those go for something like $8 / night.

The sites Oms speaks of are the primitive "Group Sites" on the 11 mile backpacking trail. That's where I almost always go unless my wife is along and we use tents and toilets with running water. Forest Glen asks that you register to camp at the Group Site at least a week in advance, although I've done it just a couple of days before and it's been OK. Means sending in a form or an email. Costs nothing. No water sources nearby. I hang in those places, but haven't ever encountered a park ranger out there, an encounter which might trigger a discussion about hanging off their trees. But the ranger has a lot of paved park to patrol and is unlikely to come poking around the group sites.

I might (hopefully) be able to do one night. If you all are out on the trail somewhere, I could catch up
