"Most of the developed methodologies have been tested only in lab conditions and not outdoor."

I wonder how long the tests for the outdoors would take

Yes, I hope we hear more about it soon. It won't necessarily mess up breathability, will it? Unless it clogs up the fabric "pores" through which vapor passes? And I don't see that it will for sure do that, though you do wonder.

Beyond the environmental / health concerns - always a reasonable issue to think about when you're talking about nanoparticles, there is also a durability question. How well will this stuff hold up under real world use? A waterproof coating for my shoes that only lasts a week doesn't do me much good.

Looks like the stuff is a form of Teflon coating. If it is then I don't think it would be breathable at all. I think the stuff is environment friendly as Teflon can be but the method of dispersal will be what is in question. Aerosol spray or compressed air. Seems like a great idea for tarps without adding much weight.

A video on their website www. neverwet .com had mention of leaving a neverwet product in saltwater for a year.

I wonder how this treatment would affect breathability of the fabrics and if the coating could be applied to silnylon tarp to give it better water shedding capabilities. What would be the weight of an effective coating?

The website stated that the products would be available mid 2012. Can't wait!
