but, but, how does it impact the environment? if it's released into the nature will it interfere with the water uptake of living organisms? is it biodegradable? what happens if i swallow it? can i still drink beer? etc...

OMG - are you kidding.... Mens Wearhouse makes rain jackets as little as 8 years ago... you take a shot glass of water and it all hits the floor..

Now imagine how easy your kayak can be moved though the water.

Not a silly comment. 3M reformulated Scotchguard because the original formula did not biodegrade. ADM tried to make a biodegradable trash bag by loading the plastic with corn starch but all it degraded to was a plastic mesh. The point is that it is not desirable to have most things last forever unless you want to be buried in worn out junk.
