dutch buckle = jrb triglide?

could the jrb triglide be used in the same manner as the new dutch buckle?

obviously it doesn't have the cool throwing star shape- but being as it's used
in hmmk suspension - strength should not be an issue.

i'm stuck at work wondering if the buckle would provide enough hold for a whoopie loop---anyone tried this?

the four "nubbins" on the DB act as safety devices to prevent the buckle from rotating under pressure within the whoopie sling loop. I would hazard a guess that lighter hangers might be able to use a TriGlide successfully - but being a heavy hanger I will not volunteer to test the concept personally.

i dont think it would offer the same hold, as the "star"shaped ones are that way so the whoopie has enough to hold onto without slipping off.

actually, looking at both, theres no way i can see the tri working the same way safely.

when you put a load on the DB, the corners hold the Whoopie in the middle of the buckle, and it (more or less) puts pressure on the bottom of the buckle and it pushes the top over the whoopie & knot a bit. doesnt work like that with the tri, as it wants to slip

I think though if you just want to try it out, then it will work. The triglide is much thicker and heavier so no worries with the strength. The only issue is making sure it is seated pretty good. The Buckle has those wings but if you seat the whoopie real well it won't go anywhere. Also the buckle has the cool shock cord retension system, but it would be good enough to try it.

I lost a DB when the thin polyester webbing slid to one side, and the Ti DB cut it, sending the DB sailing off into the leaves. The webbing was doubled back through the DB, but it was still thin enough to slide to one side and fail.

Perhaps a TriGlide would have done the same thing... who knows?

I've tried using Triglide in the same manner and they work but as Dutch said they really have to be seated well due to their size. They'll work in a pinch but I'd be leary about using them for longer hangs where frequent in and outs of the hammock may cause the Triglide to rotate to point where the amsteel might slip off. Some use a Solomon bar or something similar to keep amsteel from slipping off MSH's so if that was used it would probably keep the amsteel over the triglide.

FWIW...The JRB Tri-Glide easily works in the same manner as the Dutch Buckle....In either case attention to the seating is essential...IMHO use of a Dutch Biner is far and a way the most secure way to connect whoopies to tree straps...It also provide a true water break and is as light or lighter an approach.

Ouch...hope you weren't hurt. I just switched to the DB and whoopie setup...and love it. Now you have me worried.

tri glide works well. no slippage issues after a few hours hanging this morning.

i've never had a whoopie slip off a msh toggle. i don't see having that issue
using a jrb triglide.

of course, of course, i want the cool dutch buckles which will shave
6 grams off the setup and add the awesome strap keepers.
plus then i'll have the trifecta - chainlink to BINER, to whoopie to BUCKLE, to strap to CLIP

maybe when i decide on a logo for the cuben pack cover, i'll add 'em to
the cart, along with some other cool wares.

Tri-glides should work fine as long as the hammock has even the smallest load on it - its own weight should suffice. To come dislodged, the amsteel would have to flare outwards and over the triglide, which seems unlikely. My initial tests using Elephant Trunks in the same fashion (freeing up the "trunk" part to hold a tarp ridgeline) seemed quite solid. As with using anything for non-manufacturer-recommended purposes, test carefully before depending on it!
