    Zip strips keep breaking

The zip strips that hold the little black covers over the ends keep breaking! Are others having this problem? Are the little black covers even important...can I just take them off?

The ties on the Expedition I used to have would break every time I hung the hammock too tight. If I hung it looser, they were fine.

I don't think the covers are anything other than cosmetic.

    Hey hikingdad,

I had exactly the same problem when I first started, I replaced the zip ties several times then realized the problem of hanging too tight. The covers are just cosmetic.
    Take care,

I've not had an issue with them breaking, but since I just replaced the stock suspension with whoopies, I'm considering replacing the zip ties with some shock cord...make it easier to pull those on and off if I need to adjust or replace the suspension.

ZQ here. I use a stronger zip tie when I put the end caps back on after completeing the zipper mod. Also, the end cap covers a sharp area that might damage/poke/cut something that might come in contact with it.

I will sing from the same hymnal.

The only time mine broke was when I strung my HH too tightly.

Now that I have converted it to straps & buckles I just replaced the zip tie with a piece of 2mm drawcord. Allows me to inspect the wraps of Amsteel easily. Shockcord would do as well.

Thanks everyone! So it sounds like I'm hanging it too tight. I like the tip of using shockcord instead.

That's great news, since I just sent my HH in for a mod a couple of weeks ago! That's a freebie I didn't even know about
