They've been working best for me. And a lot more affordable too, if you loose one...no big deal. Just be sure you get the aluminum ones for the lightest type.

I use the groundhogs, and they hold great in pretty much any soil. That being said, I am going to return them to REI as soon as the HF Store restocks. The HF one's are cheaper, lighter, brighter and the money goes to a good cause. SOLD

Coghlan sells the "Ground hog" stakes for, $4.00 for 4. They are aluminum but 8 of them is lighter then one of my old aluminum military stakes. And smaller too. Think i got mine at Dicks Sports.

    Coglhan's stakes

Those are the same ones I'm using with my MacCat Deluxe. The first 4 came from Dicks then the next set I got with an order from here.

They come with a piece of fat, white cord attached to the top. Ditch this for some high-vis reflective cord to make them a little easier to keep track of.

So far these "ground hog" knockoffs hold well in the FL sand and Carolina clay. I haven't tried to pound them into really rocky soil but I figure they'll do OK. When in doubt I'll fall back to my gutter nails.

I like the ground his, but still just use the gutter nails. I bought mine at lowes for like 8 bucks and they come in a 10 pack

My set could use a total of (12) stakes, usually (4) ground hogs for the main tarp lines and then shepherd hooks or gutter spikes for the doors, side pullouts and blackbird tie outs.

    Tarp Stakes

I am sticking with Ground Hogs going forward. I tried titanium shepherds hook stakes for awhile and found them to not hold well. Also we have a lot of hard rocky soil here and the flimsy shepherd hook stakes bend and don't go in well. I may grab some mini ground hogs for the tarp doors.
