Pads for a Hennessy

I've cut and glued a piece of fleece to the winshield reflector and it works well. The fleece creates the dead air space you need between you and the reflective surface of the windshield reflector. If you lay directly on top of the reflector you cancel the ability to reflect any heat.

I just use a thermarest mat and shove it in my sleeping bag and lay on top of it, no rolling off and it's always under you. It works great, I've used it down to 17 deg and was fine.

If you've got a big enough bag to do that, great, but you still have a bit of a squirm factor being closed up in the bag. I find that a shorter pads works better since standard length pads run up the ends of the hammock and make it harder to adjust. Its also easier to adjust a pad if you're using the bag unzipped like a quilt.

Yeah you have to get in the bag for this to work, no differnet from a tent though. And it does fold up or cone in the bottom of my bag but it's not a big deal to me. I'm a big boy at 6' 1'' and 271 lbs and would like to have a bigger bag just because in all my bags i seem to look like a grub. But it's ok.
