Speaking of hammocks in space.
We're gonna see a whooooooooooole diffierent kind of folk in the woods------
Daughter was watching Aladin the other night and the genie character played by Robin Williams _WAS_ a hammock during one scene... lol
In a comic from the 1970ís Spider-Man once made a web hammock to wait on the Green Goblin.
I was thinking about that "Abilify" antidepressant ad (first post in this thread).
Maybe they should include a free hammock with each prescription!
And then commission a study to see if those who received hammocks did better than those without...
I finally found one!
Fantasy / Fiction writer Piers Anthony, in his book "Jumper Cable" in the Xanth series, Chapter 5* ('Ogre").
The main character is a oversize Spider that is about the size of an average man, which he gets turned into & back to spider form, from time to time.
Anyway, during the course of their travels, he makes hammocks for himself & one of his human female companions.
After a while, the rest of the companions say: "Those hammocks, they look more comfortable than the floor. Can you make them for the rest of us? So he spun more hammocks & soon all of them were hanging. They had found a better way to camp out."
THEY FOUND A BETTER WAY TO CAMP! Does that sound familiar?
I had to read that chapter 3 times just to be sure, but indeed, it sounds like Mr Anthony took a page from our book! And, SILK hammocks, how luxurious is that!

When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, youíre home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.
Kaylee Frye from 'Firefly' the Sci-Fi series...yum!
Yum is right! I always loved her in that role.
Hammocking. Approved by Whedon. - Here comes the squee...
It's also worth noting that any marine warfare/master and commander/hornblower type stuff will mention hammocks, as they were used below decks.
