    DIY Down UQ Pattern

Does anybody know where I can find a DIY Down UQ Pattern? I'm looking to make a 3/4 UQ using down. I'd like it to be a good 3 season UQ. I'm located in south Alabama and the coldest I might would be concerned with would be about 30 degrees which would probably be a bit overkill as well. Any help would be very appreciated.

Also I've got some 1.1 ripstop I could use but would love if somebody knew where 0.9oz ripstop was sold that was downproof for use on my underquilt.

Check out some posts by MAD777, he laid out some good instructions. Also, check out the DIY stickies. I think there is a recipe for Just Jeff's Red River Gorge instructions. Good luck.

Ok, I'll chime in here: I have enough 1.1 from DIYGearsupply, a yard of no-see-um, and about 32oz of down from an old Frostline sleeping bag kit....

I too am looking to get down to maybe 25 for "normal" people... (ok, I sleep COLD)

Here is the google spreadsheet differential cut calculator based on Mad777's calculations...
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...JiN2c&hl=en_US

    Meteor put this together...

The question I have is: with 10% overstuff, if my baffles are 1.5", and differential cut, how much average loft does that make?

Do a search on DIY UQ - lots of projects to look through to get ideas from.

From what I have seen, you can generally expect to get about an extra 1-1.5" of loft with a differential cut on top of your baffle height, so you'd be looking at about 2.5-3" total loft.

I based my UQ off of the available current commercial offerings - see:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...EE&hl=en#gid=0

Using those as a guideline 2" baffles should get you to where you want to be temp wise, and probably end up with around 3-3.5" of loft. Maybe err a little on the conservative side if you're a cold sleeper and shoot for a 20% overfill.

I believe it was mad that posted the formula loft=56.7-temp)/11.64 using that you would need about 2.75" of loft.

The spreadsheet down numbers are messed up....
