When do u start using a bug net

Spring is in the air, and soon the bugs too. I'm just wondering at what point do u think it's time to attach the bug net so you don't wake up bitten and with spiders on your tq? I just realized that this is my first spring as a hammock camper over a tent, which is why this question is relative to me. I know we all live in different regions, so take that into then equation too. Personally, I live in the Philadelphia area

When you start seeing bugs. And or they start to bother you. For a lot of folks that was a month or more ago depending on the climate and weather...some folks go year round with the net up. Really it just comes down to when they come out in your area and start to be a bother.

I will usually start carrying one about May, but I also treat gear with permethrin and use picaridin on my skin.

    Never! Nets are too heavy.
I will usually use a net when car camping, or in only the worst of the worst places for bugs.

I'm sorry, I should have inverted this question for Florida and asked, "is there a week in the year you can hang without a net if you're in Florida?"
You guys might as well walk around in full bug suits all day

For me (UK) most of the year, unless it's close to freezeing or below.
    1. There seem to always be insects drawn to my head torch when I try to find a sweet spot/read in my hammock.
    2. Not a big fan of swallowing "god knows what" when asleep, bugs in my ear, slugs on my forehead, birds crapping on my TQ and squirells pulling on my nuts...

Ha! So true. I'm also in Florida and know a little bit bout them flying needles.

I had my bugnet off at the Florida hang in January. Besides that, just a few other times when it got cold.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
