I need advice on cold weather gear

I'm a noob from central Idaho, McCall to be exact. I have an ENO DoubleNest and that's it. The summer doesn't last very long up here so I was wondering what type of gear combinations you would suggest for cold weather. I don't plan on going to hang in extreme cold, but I would like to camp in it next year. I am also more of a Do-it-Yourself person, so if you have any plans that would be awesome.

I have done a little research and I'm thinking a peapod and topquilt. I was thinking of making the lining of the footbox on the topquilt out of fleece. As for a tarp I am going to make a blackbishop BlackCat tarp.

Again, any input or advice is greatly appreciated.

Shug- I watched your YouTube videos, they are what got me wanting to go hammock camping. I think the topquilt and bottomquilt setup would be a pain to keep in place. I like the simplicity of the peapod better, especially after watching the video of you sleeping in one in your backyard at -17.

I did 3 blogs on my experiences with winter hammocking and hiking:

If bulk and weight are no concern for you then peapod the hell out of it. I dont think you need a top quilt with a pod.

It is actually a sleeping bag and not a real Peapod...works like a champ.

I have both an UQ and TQ from Hammock Gear. No problem at all with keeping them in place. I have not had the nerve to try a DIY quilt. Good Luck with yours. Tried to convert a sleeping bag into a peapod, a pain in the butt to get into and out of. If you try this method, make sure that your sleeping bag has plenty of room/width to start with. I think that was the downfall of mine.
