I would have to say that I agree with everyone. As to what order they all fall, I think that would most likely depend on my mood at the time.

Things that make a good trip?

    1) Had a good time in the outdoors
    2) Didn't get eaten by a bear

Anything above that is a bonus!

Be with good friends, see some great sites, eat some good food, and have a great nights sleep. Of course, the trips that don't go as planned or nearly end in catastrophe make the best stories.

Not forgetting your lighter to start your stove, thus having to have graham crackers for dinner...

Other than that, a beautiful location, good sleep quality, a nice view to wake up to in the morning, and no rush to move on and get to another location or onto the trail.

My choice of order would be:
    group 1, important:

    Exploring options
    Flora and fauna (+ granite)
    Location
    Company
    New Experiences
    Weather
    Ease/Difficulty of terrain
    Foul weather bail out options

group 2, considered but not all that important:

    Natural protection from the elements
    Distance to trailhead from home

group 3, never enters my thought process:

    Food quality
    Cell phone coverage
    Firewood

    1st and foremost.
not, i repeat, NOT endlessly talking about gear while around the fire or on the trail.

    my 2 cents

    1. Company ... I usually camp with a co-worker and our kids are pretty darn tight, too.
    2. Food quality ... The above mentioned buddy and I do enjoy quality food while out in the woods. If it means packing it in, then it will be done.
    3. Location ... My family enjoys piling into the car, exploring, and then enjoying new places to camp.
    4. New Experiences ... See above note.
    5. Firewood ... The place to socialize after the long day.
    6. Flora and fauna
    7. Weather ... While good weather is nice, "liquid sunshine" does happen.
    8. Exploring options ... Something has got to tire out the young ones.
    9. Ease/Difficulty of terrain
    10. Distance to trailhead from home ... What am I planning, a 3 or 4 day weekend or a full week (with the attached weekends)?
    11. Natural protection from the elements
    12. Foul weather bail out options
    13. Cell phone coverage ... If I am with the family, who cares about cell coverage. If I am solo, then it is nice.

when my dad was in the army and they were learning to parachute a man raised his hand and asked 'how many successful jumps do you need to be a paratrooper?" the sarge said "all of them"
for hammocking, if you wake up in the woods, it was a success.

I only see one that is a sure place location. Cell phone coverage, at the bottom.
