Hanging and Hiking with Syb & Kayak Karl in the Pine Barrens, 11/26-27, 2011

Got away this weekend for an overnighter at Batona Camp, site of the NJ Winter Hang 2012 in January. Kayak Karl came with canine companion Kaia, and Syb was there field testing WV's Aarn backpack.

Here's the first installment of the trip report which includes dinner and hanging around the campfire. I tried incorporating music during the intro, so we'll see how that works out. Kayak Karl and Syb are entertaining, but Kaia stole the show with her "don't mess with my bone" routine. The lighting is poor, and many of you will be disappointed that you don't get to see my face as much as you'd like.

Sorry I couldn't make this shorter, but there's only so much time I'm willing to spend editing 1.5 hours of video. I showed I care about y'all, however, spending four hours whittling it down to 12 minutes of somewhat watchable video.

I'll try to get the second installment posted tomorrow, where you'll get to see how handsome we all are in the daylight hours. We're going peak bagging tomorrow, attempting the dangerous ascent of Apple Pie Mountain.

    Enjoy!

    A laugh a minute

    SS,

You started off the video sounding like Michael Constantine AKA Kostas "Gus" Portokalos from My Big Fat Greek Wedding with the description of the origin of Syb. Thanks for the laughs.

How long will I have to wait for the second part? Hopefully, not too long.

Here's Part 2 where we take on Apple Pie Mountain.

My apologies for the wobbly video on the trail. I don't have a PixStick yet, so I'm using an extended aluminum tripod. Even if I had a PixStick, I'm not sure I could keep the camera steady 'cause I seem to have a hitch in my gitalong.

There'll be a part 3 coming 'cause I want to catch Kayak Karl in his hip waders crossing the Delaware (or the Batsto or Mullica or whatever river is next to Batona Camp. We lost Syb for the return trip 'cause he had to run home, with WV's Aarn on his back. He was late for his back-waxing appointment.

I will add this to my peak-bagging diary: Mt. Korbar and Apple Pie Mountain in one day!

    Entertaining, as always.

I really, honestly expected a Star Wars quote out of Kayak Karl when he took up the tail spot (and put his gas mask on). "You can go about your business; move along."

Glad to see that everyone had a good time. Thanks for sharing!

The final installment shows the arduous descent from Apple Pie Mountain, and Kayak Karl dons his hip waders.
