ENO Single/Double vs GT Ultralight for first hammock

Getting ready to make that fateful first Hammock purchase. Looking for something simple and on the cheaper side since this is my first Hammock. I will also be purchasing a Hammock for my Son as well so we can hang together on some camp outs on Dec 16th and 30th.

I am considering the GT Ultralight since I can't beat the price of $14.85 at Amazon. Is there any compelling reason to upgrade to the ENO Single or Double for $50 more? I am about 6 foot and 210 lbs. Son is just turning 12 and is just over 5 feet and maybe 90 pounds. Will I have space concerns in the GT Ultralight?

Was going to DIY my hammock but finding a local source for material at a decent price has been a challenge. That and my Wife's thread injector needs to be serviced before use.

For now we will be going with the Walmart blue foam pad and blue tarp. Those upgrades will come with time .

    Thanks for the input.

I used a GT Ultralight for a few months when I started out. It's a pretty good hammock. I moved to a DIY because I lay pretty diagonal and my heels hung off the edge just a bit. I'm about 6'2 or 6'3. On the other hand, there are guys here taller than me that love the GTUL. IMO, it's a solid choice for trying this whole hammock thing out, and you can't beat the price, probably even with DIY. Good luck!

I also have an ENO double now, and it's huge. It's a bit softer material too. Also a great hammock, but it weighs roughly twice as much. Sorry about making the choice tougher.

My first hammock was a GT.
I took it out for a test run with a thermarest pad I had.
That thing moved around soooooo much I hardly slept a wink.

I did alot of reading here as a result.

one guy, just recently, posted what I thought an awesome solution for a pad on a budget.

in fact, i loved his idea so much, I am making this for a back up pad!

it is totally worth getting the elephant clips as an adjunct to your tree straps.
I highly recommend the elephant trunks or Dutch Clips ( either for 1" or 1.5" straps)

also, once you make 50 posts, check out the PIF section.
people have extra gear that you might need and vice versa.
    warning: very addicting and contagious!

The GTUL is a great hammock but for your size you might want to go with the single or a double.
I weigh 185# and 5'8" and find the UL comfy and it's my main hammock at home but the single is even better. The dlb is really nice and gives you a lot of room to spread out in but for some reason I just like the single better then the double.. You really need to lay in them to make a choice. If you can order one of each and return the one you like the least and keep the other two for your son and you...

I forgot to mention I was talking about GT hammocks. I do not have any ENO hammocks but GT and ENO hammocks are pretty much the same..

i hang with the gtul and the gtsb but as an overall i would suggest the gtul for a first hammock as you get into it thats when you want to spend more money on different hammocks... is comfy and light you cant beat it ... hope it helps

    happy hanging

I have the GTUL and I like it. I would go with that one, and then you can save your money for a better system later when you get the hang of it. You can keep an eye on the for sale forum and find you a great buy. I just got an entire setup for a good price on the for sale forum here, and it is an awesome setup. I wish I had waited for it, I have so many hammocks now I will be giving all the grandkids and kids a hammock for Christmas.

the GT UL is a nice hammock for the money .... i'm using mine as my in-house hammock i slept in it this weekend and it's a nice hammock.. i wish it was a little wider but it's not bad

the ENO is wider for sure ... so if you want a nice big hammock i would look into a ENO DL ...
But for the price the GTUL is a great starter hammock
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
