haha thanks ramblinrev...my father has told me the very same thing! by "sort of on the trail" i mean that we woudl follow the trails all the way to the top, then they sort of end and the last 100 feet or so is just big boulders that you can climb to get to the ridge, then go back down onto the trail! SOMEDAY, i'll do all off-trail, but this is not someday! thanks for all the concert and suggestions guys!

but i'm still looking for something to purchase?

I know what I missed from that list.... You could purchase this cause I am quite sure you wouldn't want to borrow it. You need the orange plastic potty trowel. (although someone said they have different colors I have never seen any but orange.) And if the gram weenie in your inner child needs soothing you can even cut the handle down. Although I understand it makes it harder to dig with. In so far as the TP is concerned, remove the cardboard core from a roll at home and pull out what you think you will need from the center. No need to rewind or buy little camping packs for the price of an entire year's supply.

The rest of the roll goes in your gear closet to be forgotten about the next time you need to resupply until you have destroyed another whole roll making mom oh so happy.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Trowels? We don't need no stinking trowels! Use a stick. You don't have to carry it everywhere, they're free and there is usually a pretty good supply of them anywhere you go.

NC must have softer rocks than PA. Up here you have to scrape up a pile a leaves 6" deep cause there ain't no top soil that deep before bedrock.

Just squeeze out your business and put a rock on it.
