I would say a great number of folks here are trending to "normal" and "on track" calculated against standard Hammock Forums measures.

And isn't it lovely to be among such great company?

    Advice

I keep telling myself "I have everything I need"... I think I said that about $600 ago, though...

I will say this though, my decisions about what I am buying now, at least with regards to hammock camping, are MUCH more informed now that I've become a member here. I don't know that it's saving me any money directly, though I guess it eliminates a lot of the trial and error of buying stuff and then having it suck. I do feel safer buying things that OTHERS have tried and that work for them, so reading these forums definitely helps with that. The most important thing I can do now is justify these purchases by going out and using all this new gear! Anyone know where I can buy some free time... preferrably on sale?

    Oh LOOK! Something shinny!

I've been hanging in my WBBB every night for the past week. Not sleeping. Testing, adjusting, looking for leaks in the rain, trying the TQ, the UQ, with and without the blue pad, with and without the pillow, with and without my gloves and

You think this is bad you should be me. I've got the Ultralight Backpacking bug AND the hammock bug, all at various stages of DIY and gear buying madness. If it's not something for my hammock, it's something brand new and expensive to lighten my pack! And then there's the winter backpacking...

In all seriousness I have to say that I have saved money from the advice I get here. Every time I get quality advice on quality gear is a time I don't spend my money on inferior gear that will bite me in the butt.

With the cold weather here in Wisconsin it really does cause a predicament sometimes. I pretty much HAVE to have at least 2 full sets of gear for 2 very different seasons. PLUS the ultralite set up, Plus, the "hey cousins getting married this weekend out in Michigan I should bring the bare hammock essentials in case I can find a park to sleep at instead of the hotel." It never ends!

Just had a thought....If you look at my profile picture there is an obvious problem, I can't believe I missed it! Just over my shoulder is my asym tarp over my HH. Since this photo less than a year ago, I have upgraded to a full hex fly and added a a killer ridge line to my set up for extra stability in heavy weather. and so the madness continues...I wouldn't have it any other way
