You have to take into account Sgt Rocks height. I added the difference between his hight and moine when I made mine and it works well. It definitely hugs the shoulder a little but I kind of like it.

Somebody here has a long ghost, as he is over 6'... my plan is a compromise between comfort and Sgt. Rock's fanaticism on weight... ( or is it a compulsion?) I am 5'11" and my plan is to make it 10'. I might whip it shorter just to see...

My first home made hammock started at 12'. Lots of unused room.

I'm 6'1" and I made mine to the same length as Sgt. Rock but a couple inches narrower and it still feels great to me. Certainly enough room. I sleep in the fetal position most of the time though, so that might have something to do with it.

I know that this thread has been quiet for a year or more.... Call me a late bloomer! Lol

I have watched Sgt Rock video and stared at the drawing..... I can not get my brain to understand what that triangle sewed into the corner of the hammock does. Is there any way to explain this to me or a picture to look a or a video of it? I understand what a tension rope would do in that area but not the extra layer.

It shortens the length of that side of the hammock, mimicking having a wider hammock because you can use all the material up the the edge of the main body. It also shapes the hammock somewhat. This is what's known as a "foot box". A similar structure is used on the Warbonnet Black Bird hammocks.

The 2 "short" sides of the triangle are sewn to the edge of the main body, and the hypotenuse becomes the edge of the hammock.
