    Best fabric next to skin

Picked up a burrow and incubator... But i got to thinking-- what would the best fabric next to the skin be for both feel and comfort? Have any of you guys tried a few of the different fabrics out there? Stock-- they come with ripstop 1.1... The options would be 7D(+$40)-- M90(+$20) or M55(+$40).. Any thoughts on which would feel best next to the skin.. I dont really care about the weight savings-- just more about comfort..

I have tried 1.1, 7D and M55 and out of the three IMHO the 7D is the smoothest and silkiest against the skin. It is so so so so comfy. My current summer burrow is made from all 7D and I love it. I also have a 7D pillow from Hammock Gear and its like laying on a cloud of fluffiness.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I like a fine linen for next to skin comfort, unfortunately, it is not down proof...
on the up side, a linen tablecloth (60x72 or so) is extremely versatile (multi-use!), and can be wrapped around you before pulling up the TQ. another 10-16 oz to carry though. some feel it is worth it, also keeps sweat/oil out of the down. YMMV, HYOH.

7D without a doubt but M55 is a very close second. Both have an amazing hand!

    @ LazyRR: "... silkiest ..." There's a hint there. What about ... silk?

@ SoCalBB: I hadn't thought of linen, but to my knowledge, KM has never been wrong. I like Pertex Microlight, but it's hard to find. The 7D fabrics are supposed to be good, too. Get swatches (or solicit them from HF members?) and try a different bandana each day. PM me your address and I'll send you a square of Pertex. If you put together a sampler of different fabrics you could circulate it through the PIF thread when you're done with it.

Handkerchief linen with a fine smooth finish is absolutely heavenly. BUT as with other natural fibers it is reserved to indoors or comes with a wicked high maintenance tradeoff. While linen has better rot resistance than cotton it does rot if not cared for properly.

Finely woven hemp is an exquisite fabric with good resistance to the elements. In thin layers it does not present the internal rot characteristics hemp rope does.

But IMO the most luxurious fabric against the skin is a medium weight china silk. But make sure you get the smooth china silk and not the raw silk. Raw silk is a wonderful fabric but the slubs that are an integral part of the weave make it suitable for uses where pressure is not supplied directly to the skin.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Specialized Liner?

I picked up a thermolite (sea to Summit) liner a year ago and it comes in real handy. It is a little annoying to get in and out of sometimes even though it is quite roomy, but it is nice and soft, adds some warmth, keeps my bag clean, and as an added bonus can be used as a very light bag on warm to mild summer nights. It adds 6 ozs but has saved me on cooler nights. Kind of a JIC emergency blanket with dual purpose.
