    First hang with new hammock

Well I have my Clark NX250 all set up in the garage. Im new to the cold weather stuff and am getting ready for a few Jan weekend trips. I just woke up from my first whole night and it went great. It was only 50 when I went to sleep. I used a pad for bottom insulation and a 20 deg bag as a top quilt. I slept great but my legs were too warm. Has anyone had luck improvising an underquilt? I think I may need one for the Jan hang.

Not a Clark owner myself - yet - but was wondering about the pad as insulation. Did you use it inside the hammock or in the pockets? Did it stay in place? Do you think the pockets alone (empty) would be enough insulation for 50-60 degrees?

I have a little loop at the top of my pad that I clipped to the loop at the top of the hammock. Keeps it from sliding down. I think 50-60 you wouldnt need a pad at all, but Im still figuring out what to use for what temps.

yea with a pad and the 20 degree bag you probly had a little too much insulatin for 50 to 60 but its always better to have it then not to have it. but alot of people have made UQ's from old sleeping bag. Im sure you can find alot of people who did that in the DIY section
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

    Psyops:
Check out the KAQ New River UQ from Arrowhead Equipment. They work great on my NX-200, same as your just minus the poles. I have used it and a CBS CFC pad into upper 20's and been very comfortable.

CBS CFC = small CFC pad section that wraps from hip bone to hip bone and covers kidney area to mid-thigh to help prevent the dreaded Cold Butt Syndrome.

Well I have the hammock strung up out side. Set up the tarp for the first time. Used a shock cord ridge line at first but it sagged too much so I swapped it out for 550 cord. Its currently 42 deg, raining and pretty windy. Still going to try the 20 deg bag with pad in the Clark NX250. Any suggestions before I turn in?

Hey hey! Sounds like you're prepping and getting ready to rock for the KC hang in Jan!!! Glad to hear it went well.

My son and I have only been out down to the mid-30s, so we're kinda hoping for a good night to sleep out before mid-Jan to make sure we're good for the group hang.

Tell the wife that she's welcome to get her own hammock and come out with you!

(I say this, but two of my sons who are tent campers have flat REFUSED to consider going out with us in Jan...cowards! )
