What size needle to use on rip stop?

Hello all. Im sure this has been discussed here at length before. What size needle would you all recommend for sewing the edge seams(read hems) on a gathered end hammock? I know stitch length etc is important too. But I can't seem to find anything on needle size. And while we're at it why not the best stitch length to use?
    Thanks as always,

I use Schmetz Microtex 70/10's at roughly 10-12 stitches per inch.

`Needle size is a complex issue if you want to make one. It really is a non issue in my mind. IMO it doesn't matter what the needle size is unless you are trying to stuff heavy duty thread through a tiny little needle. I personally like big needles because I can see to thread the stinking things. Stitch length is another issue that is as complicated as you want to make it. Going around curves, a shorter stitcgh make a smoother job for two reasons. The fabric moves slower and gives you more control and the arc of the curve is shorter so the curve is easier to trace around.

In either case... there are no hard and fast rules. I recommend setting in the middle of the range unless you you have a reason to change it. Basting (temporary) stitches are as long as possible. Bujtton hole zigzags as close together as practical. Everything else... mid range.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Thanks guys for the input. As of this message I'm stitching poly webbing for the ring buckles. After that I'll start laying out the rip stop and probably start the hemming tomorrow night. That's a lot of hems! I should be a pro by the time I get it finished. I'll keep you posted as it goes!
