    Baffel direction

    What is the best direction for the baffels on a top quilt. Vertical or Horizontal.

    I guess either will work, but I have always used horizontal baffles.

    I just bought a near duplicate-for-warmth-rating and quality sleeping bag I will also use as a top quilt. The difference: The first one was partly sewn-through, permitting no redistribution of down. The baffles on the second will allow me to shake down -- ten minutes from now --away from the edges which will be to tucked under me, leaving more down on top of me.

    There must be some research out there on where more down should be shifted chest to feet, if that is possible by baffles running the length.

    That said, I think all pro makers here and most sb makers baffle across the width, which prevents starvation of down at the feet and head. And some DIY ers Karo-quilt. HG runs the baffles for their underquilts the other way..
