Hmm well I'm a noob so I only have 1 hammock, tarp and going to be working on my pod soon. I don't really have the problem of too many items and not knowing what's in the bag.

Ha I don't even have a sack I just roll mine up right now. Considering making one if I have leftover from tarp material.

Okay, not chucking stones at the OP. I thought about this (color coords) when I first started making sacks for my kit. I quickly realized it was an exercise in futility and settled on the ShugOrg method. In my mind, there some things to be meticulous and methodical about and then there are others.

Along these lines, when acquiring gear, I initially thought about color coordination. Again, I quickly realized that if I were to go the budget route, color should be one of my last considerations. I kind of like looking like the guy who got dressed in dark.

I write my name on my stuff sacks, so when I loan something out, it might get back to me, one day. (cough, cough) Seriously, my tarp and snowshoes are supposed to be coming home tonight. I do write on my stuff sacks, but that is mostly so I know my own name.

Almost all of my stuff is DIY, and when I make an article, I make the stuff sack out of the same material as the article. That, along with having relatively few items total, makes thing easy for me.
