I can attest, I have his breeze and it is excellent craftsmanship.

Question, what needle do you use? Been thinking of making my first ever quilt and hoping for a 15 degree.

some photos to help - with a visual description - aid in making good channels starting with the quilt corners.

first, you want to finish sewing the 3 closed sides with a 1/4" edge.

then, fold the corner down, make a crease in the fabric if it helps guide you for the next step:

make a fold again, and stitch it tight. the object is to make this double-fold in your edge match the desired size for your quilt's border. in this case, we are looking at about 1/2 inch. this is a good size to accept a drawcord in the top & bottom channels without reducing the overall quilt size too much.

the next step is double-folding the entire quilt leaving one side open for your down fill. keep the fabric mated, that is to say make sure both layers of fabric are sewn together well so there is no buckling or wrinkling in the fabric. pay close attention to this, as you are likely to deal with a side that is over 6' long. happy DIY quilting!

Question: Would it work to taper the baffle material to a point at the ends to help close up the gap between the edge of the baffle and the edge of the material where it will be sewn around the edges? Just an idea I had while planning out my quilt.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Not quite sure what your thought process is with your question. The quilts I've done so far are more of a container and lid design. The baffles go in the container and the lid is the side closest to you so that the loft goes away from you. Not sure if that helps.

So one side of the quilt fabric is larger and is "folded" down and sewn over the ends of the baffles?

That makes a lot of sense actually. It would have eliminated the issue I'm now facing. My inside and outside pieces of fabric are the same size, so now I have to figure out how to close up sides where the baffle meets the edge... Maybe i'll just succumb to losing a couple inches of width on my quilt.

    What do you think Mouseskowitz?

In my mind, you have two options. You can either do some trimming and loose 2x your baffle height in length and width, not sure if you were generous enough with your initial dimensions for that. Or, you could sew a strip of fabric all the way around the perimeter to compensate for the baffle height. My personal preference would be the second one unless you were rather generous with your original quilt size.

Or...just sew the two halves together around the perimeter, and then add a rolled hem. A top quilt doesn't really need a differential. The end chambers will be a little smaller, but they are generally under you anyway...

I seems like either method will cause a loss of "effective width." One option requires a loss of fabric width but is insulated to the edges, while the other method maintains fabric width, but insulated width is reduced.

At this point, going with whichever is easier seems like the best way to decide which way is best for me as I am not a super-sew-er.

Would it work to just extend my baffle lengths and sew over the ends of them while sewing the edges together?

Question to everyone is there a chart out there some where that shows the amount of a certain goose down fill is equal to x temp rating?
