Minnesota Freeze Dry Group Buy, anyone?

I asked the moderators if Group Buy could be limited to a locality and got no response so I'm hoping this falls under Trip Planning...

I'm wondering if any of you around the Metro area (or further if it can work out) would be interested in a group purchase of Bulk quantities of freeze dried foods?

If yes, do you have a favorite brand (likely the best rates if all from one manufacturer)? Do you have a favorite vendor that gives great bulk rates?

Do you know someone with a freeze-dryer?

That should be enough to stimulate some conversation, and might lead to a meetup in town to coordinate?

    Just thinking aloud...

I would be interested. Are you thinking bulk ingredients or packaged meals? I would be interested in either or both.

I'm interested if it gets figured out....I'd be more interested in pre packaged meals.

Whatever is chosen. I was thinking meals, but I'm seriously out of touch with what's available so didn't know what is available.

I'm experimenting with a dehydrator and vacuum sealer, but discovered there's good reason to use oxygen absorbing packs!

There's a group buy section under the for sale section. Post it there, and one of them will respond in a few days. The deal with a group buy is to make it cheaper for everybody, so if you can get wholesale pricing...

@hikingdad, is there a brand you prefer?

@JohnSawyer, to keep it simple and save on shipping I hope the Twin Cities locals have enough interest to do a big order, and have a local meetup to distribute the food all at one time. I don't want it to be a worldwide deal, just local if there's enough interest.

If this is too close to the holidays this can be done in the Spring or late Winter

Be sure to read this link concerning Group Buys: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=14414. Any group buy will have to be approved by the moderation team and will have to meet the aforementioned (in the link) criteria. Once approved, a group buy will be hosted in the Group Buys forum

    Thanks.

@ncpatric. That is where I started, asked the moderators if it were possible to have it be local and the response was (pipe in the sound of crickets) no response. I intend to follow that guideline, it is quite fair. I do not intend to do other than local pickup of goods for local members. More than that would be like starting up a 501c3, more than I care to endeavor.

Being new I'm also hoping to meet more locals this way, and find out what prepacked meals are worth stocking up on and which if any to avoid. I'd hate to be miles in and find the food stinks!

Sorry, it happens sometimes. We actually do look away from Hammock Forums from time to time.

Perhaps the question was perplexing -- considering that Hammock Forums is available to the world at large. There's not a logical way to make a group buy available to only a select few by region.

Besides, some of the cost savings of a group buy are (usually) due in part to the volume of items bought -- to the "economy of scale". I would guess that with less people buying, the cost savings of a group buy might not be maximized.

In any case, good luck and let us know how we can help you. (And maybe even send a second PM if you don't hear back from the first one. )
