    As complicated as it appears???

So I have never camped with a hammock but I'm looking into it to hopefully stay warmer winter camping and get a better nights sleep while camping (I never sleep well in a tent). So I was watching some videos on the Hennessy Hammock website and holy cow does the setup look complicated!!! All those strings, ropes, straps all over the place with all those different knots! Is it as complicated as it looks?

it's a piece of cake to get started but there's definitely a learning curve.. but nowhere near as overwhelming as it can seem

There's a Comcast commercial with the sexy Sophia Vergara. She says, "You can say I have a lot of choices, not because there's a walk-in closet inside my walk-in closet, but because I have Comcast!"

Well, Hammock Forums gives you a lot of choices. Whether it's hammock, tarp, suspension, insulation, tie-outs or guy-lines, you're gonna have a lot of choices. You'll have to see what you can afford, and what you want to DIY, then go from there.

And all those splices and knots and Zing-It and Fling-it and Dynaglide and Amsteel.....

The one thing I have learned on this forum is that the more you know about splicing rope, the less you have to know about knots.
And there are all sorts of doohickeys by Dutch and others that help you avoid knots. The only knots I really use in hammocking are larkshead, prusik, half-hitch, and Marlin spike hitch. As I learn more about knots, maybe I'll get more elaborate.

And then there's stoves, cookware, knives, folding saws, and clothing to think about . . . . sigh.

    Enjoy!

With your name, you'll do just fine...

(You will understand as you learn more about hammock camping and discover who "Dutch" is.)
