FWIW, I bought one of these kits as I was learning to lighten my backpacking load some years ago.
It was also about that time that I discovered hammocks.
With the help of a seamstress friend, I made the tarp with it's beaks, just as instructed, but never attached the bug net & it became the tarp I used with my first hammock. I used it for hammocking for several years & still have it.
If I were doing it again, I'd attach the beaks as normal, except I'd leave a slit in the center for the hammock suspension.
Just make sure it's long enough for the hammock you use.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
I also have the Go Lite version. If I wasn't hanging I would still be using this tarp set up.
