Insultex and Wal Mart blue ccf

I'm doing a winter trip in February. I use the wal Mart blue ccf as it is the frame for my gg virga backpack. I was wondering if a 2 layers of insultex ( one on top of pad, one below) slid into my two layer hammock might take me down to around 20 degrees?

I'm a warm sleeper. 2 layers of IX works for me down to 40. Adding the CCF pad may, just may, take me to 30 or into the 20's IF I have a large tarp with doors pitched in closed up mode and out of the wind.

Other factors would be the clothing you sleep in. I don't like to wear a lot, as I might sweat. If you dress warmer for sleep than I do you can surely pull this off.

Just an update... I used my extra wide blue ccf pad to 19 degrees in Shenandoah this weekend. I had the famous RAB black top quilt covered by my primaloft summer top quilt. I wore heavyweight long underwear top and bottoms. Surprisingly cozy.

Now I need two layers of insultex and some really cold weather!

Yes, what is that? But re: the OP, are you thinking of laying directly on one layer of that IX? Doesn't it need at least a tiny air space between you and it to work well?

And same with the bottom layer, you will be compressing it and your pad in direct contact with it if it is in your pad pocket.

I would think for best results th IX needs to be suspended below your hammock and pad, with at least tiny gaps maintained between hammock and all layers. But then again, who knows? Give it a try, you never know!

BTW, great results with just that WM Blue Pad! That was in a hammock, right? 10F is pretty darn good for just that blue pad.

woobie = GI poncho liner or as one person I know say one of the few good things that came out of Nam. ;-) Roughly 1/2 in loft man made insulation with a very thin top and bottom cover and strategically placed laces. Wt ~ 1 lb.
