don't get me wrong ALICE will always be with me in some capacity, she's a life long companion.
her suspension worked better when my back was younger.

Alice Packs are heavier than modern packs but they've never lost their "Cool Factor".

I know the feeling about the Alice Pack,,as I am going to upgrade my GG NO to maybe a OLM Catalyst and shave 2 more pounds of carrying weight off the back..Age is kicking in and the only way to fight it is continually looking for ways to lighten gear load as I carry more than the wife does by a few pounds. Any more, every oz you loose,,counts! Especially when I go west and hit 8000 plus alititude or more. And shaving ounces off can get expensive on the pocketbook! You have to ask yourself anymore,,,,Do you want to enjoy the hike, the scenery, the countryside, have fun, be at peace with nature, OR, do you want to Endure the workout of the load your back is carrying???? And with age, we seek lighter loads and gear to keep the enjoyment factor maximized with our inner spirit and what it seeks as personal enjoyment and accomplishments we seek as well.

i use a large LST. for me large is better. the gear is going to compress to the shape and area of the pack better with the looser fit of the LST, and loose is easier to slip over the hammock and quilts and will be less likely to shift the UQ.
