Any of ya'll been to the Bankhead National Forrest? I was looking at going on a trip with USA and I was looking at the rules. Of course they have rules about damaging trees would of course could be construed to us in hammocks by the ignorant. Anyone know if they are hammock camping friendly

I have never been, but I know a lot of guys on here have hung in the Sipsey Wilderness, and that's in the Bankhead National Forest....I think.

Bankhead is huge with about a million miles of trails. No need to worry about hammock hanging. Check out the Trip Reports section on here about Sipsey Wilderness. Awesome place, but very easy to get lost. It's just a bunch of canyons that all look the same. You definetly need a map.

No issues with hanging in Bankhead as far as I know. Been on three trips to Sipsey and have hung everyone. taylo is right make sure you have a map. If you need one send me a PM I have one that was given to me and it lists all of the trails.

I have been to Sipsey many times. I am going again in a few weeks. I have used my hammock and tent.

Thanks for the offer of the map. I probably won't need one actually. going with a group that have paddled it many times. My wife and I just wanted to hang instead of being in a tent like everyone else

I went and checked Blakely out this past weekend. Wasn't too impressed with the primitive camping spots. Ending up lookin around and coming back home. I been wantin lately to hang on the beach at Dauphin Island, if I can figure out where.

That would be cool. Blakely is ok... but way too overpriced when compared to other parks. Luckily now that hunting season is over I have private land in Creola Alabama I can camp on for free anytime I want

I would love to join another group hang, I went on one a few years ago with a few of you guys and had a blast. I know this thread started out as a lower Alabama hang. Would yall be interested in making it a Sipsey or Pinhoti hang? Tacky Hiker, myself and a few friends are doing a trip in a couple of weekends in the Sipsey Wilderness. We can scout out a place for a group hang. We are going to do the eagle creek, little ugly, wolfpen loop.
