Hey Just wanted to say hello and grat to be here. I've traveled much through out Central America and have come across many different styles of Mayan hammocks. I find that Mexican hammocks are the best for quality and color. I've had the whole family in a family hammock yet still felt comfortable hamging out. I think it's the cotton material that makes them so comfortable.

Welcome to the forum, Mexican Hammock! I think your hammocks look pretty cool. I have never seen that many people in a hammock before!

However, the fact that they are all made of cotton make them an inadequate choice for Mike because he is backpacking. Cotton soaks up water and holds it, and thus is a poor choice for this application. The hammocks we are using for backpacking are mostly made of nylon.

I would love to get one of the Super Kings for my backyard...but I have to agree with Narwhalin on the fact they are made from cotton and are to heavy for backpacking. Good lookin stuff though.

I just hung up my cotton hammock again for this summer. I have several hammocks, but my favorite one is a Mexican hammock. Picked up this one last year in the Yucatan. We also have a family hammock, which we use when we go camping. THe kids love it and we've all piled on and held us all quite comfortably.

Still gota give it to ya...those are some awesome backyard hammocks. I am going to have to get the super king. That thing is huge and my wife and I can not double up in the backyard hammock we currently have.

This past weekend when it was so hot during the day, we enjoyed swinging in a net type hammock that gave you full contact w/ the air movement.

i also have several hammocks. In the past i sometimes had troubles with the loops at the end. If we swing a whole summer with the hammock and use it very often the ends get damaged.

Now i have found a producer who sells this mexican hammocks with thimbles. Do you think that this would help? Or would it be better to use carabiners instead of ropes?

The first one I ever had was made of agave fiber and it lasted a long, long time. Eventually, it mildewed and I tossed it. I now have one made of nylon but it's not as comfortable.

flowerpower....if I understand correctly, the thimble is in the line attached to the hammock. The thimble would protect the hammock loop from wear and tear. I would use it even if I used the biner to connect to the hanging ropes. Personal opinion... sight unseen.
