    Alabama mental health trip!

Hey guys, I just got back from a short overnight trip on the Pinhoti trail in Alabama. I dont know about you'all, but my life has been really stressfull lately----its just crazy with all the family and work stuff going on! So, I was finally able to get away for an overnight. My wife is really cool about times like this---she knows I need to get away to the mountains once in a while to get my head straight ! On Thursday, I drove to Cheah state park, and parked at the Cheah trail head. I hiked on the Cave creek trail, and set up camp near cave creek. Its not a very long hike (3 miles), but this wasn't a distance trip---it was a relaxation trip! So, I spent the day reading, hanging out, exploring the surrounding area etc. (it didnt hurt that it is unseasonably warm in the south right now---70 degrees in the day, 50 at night----I wore shorts and a t shirt, and even saw 2 hikers on the trail hiking in shorts, with no shirts!---crazy weather! ) That night, I sat under my tarp in a light rain sipping a cup of peach tea, as an owl was calling in the distance, I couldnt help but think----"man I really needed this! "
Some people take anti depressants, some people drink, some people go to therapists etc. ----hiking is the best medicine for me! (works every time!)
I woke up the next morning to a beautiful orange sunrise! (sorry, no pictures, I didnt bring a camera!) After a great breakfast (carrot cake oatmeal from the "freezer bag " cooking website--one of my favorites!)--I hiked back to my car, and spent the rest of the day geocaching and hiking in the national forest---I drove back home, feeling relaxed and happy! Like I told my wife "I always come back a changed man!"

FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Awesome, and some people don't understand why we enjoy this.....I don't know why not.

Stevebo, glad you got away. There is something in nature that restores us to a better rhythm. Yep, better than anything that can be prescribed from the pharmacy. Good for you--and everyone else too!

I was just talking to my wife today about doing this at Sipsey sometime next year. We just had a baby boy a few weeks back so haven't been in the woods much. Getting the itch bad

I had the same feeling after unloading a box of shells on some wood ducks yesterday morning. Man I love duck hunting on the river at daybreak!

That's nice Steve, Cheaha is good medicine.
You said that you camped near Cave Creek: have you seen the cave yet?

Good for you! I could use one of those about now. Next time... pictures! Though I do understand it was a getaway and even taking a picture can change the effect.
