    ENO stuff for christmas.

Hello all, My name is John, and I am a newbie. I have been reading from the side lines for a few months. I even tried my hand at a DIY hammock, with embarrassing results. I'm what some would call a big guy, 6'2" and 280lbs. Well apparently I purchased the wrong type of rip stop nylon. I ended up with my butt ripped thru the bottom of the hammock. I also made my own tree huggers, and alum toggles.

Now to my question, My parents went to the local Outdoors supplier "National Chain" and purchased me an ECO Single Nest, Bug Net, and those evil straps. I think I'm going to return them all and go to Amazon and get a double nest and bug net. Then go to whoopie slings, and get some slings. I'll end up about 20 ahead. Is there a cheaper way to go about this, or is there something out there that would be a better hammock?

    Thank you
    John

Hi John, welcome to the forum. I'm thinking a Doublenest will suit you better. I'm 6', 185# and feel snug in a Singlenest. THE ENO DN is a great hammock and should serve you well.

ENO's are great for just hanging around. If you intend on backapacking, something lighter with an integrated bugnet may be better. Certainly a Double Nest would be better than a Single Nest IMO.

Hey John welcome to the community! I think moving into the double is the right way. I'm 290... ish and have a double. It's great for the $. I'n just now getting to the point where I would like something bigger but it certainly cost alot more than a ENO. Whoopies are certainly the way to go. As far as cheaper... Not to sure Just take your time and shop around. There are some really good stores associated with this forum. Like Arrowhead, check em out.

most is about preference, hike your own hike buddy. I personally don't want an integrated bug net b/c A) don't use them' in winter and it's extra weight B) puts strain on the seems c) forces you to get a double layer if you want to be bug protected on the underside

I actually came BACK to my ENO dbl as my backpacking hammock. Once you take the rope, 'biners, webbing and buckles off it's VERY light, VERY. Really all I have no is a huge rectangle piece of parachute material and some whoopies w/ tree huggers. Great backpacking hammock. I also enjoy the extra material on the sides, feel I can get a flatter lay and feel more secure in the hammock.

I think you're doing everything right buddy, if it was myself. But again, Hike your own Hike (HYOH) and do what works for you.

An ENO was my first hammock and I love it but if I may suggest... check out Wilderness Logics Night Owl. It is a longer hammock with double layered fabric for pad insertion. They also come with Tree Hugger Straps and already have Whoopie Slings on them! And they're on sale right now for 110 bucks.

The WL NO really is a great hammock and will work with the ENO bug net very well.

The WL Bug Net is the same price as the Eno Bug Net but is MUCH lighter and has a horizontal zipper instead of vertical, which IMHO is a lot easier to get in & out of.
