The Claytor cult claims a comfortable "flat" lay, but I think they pull things up tighter to get that. The HH thing is flatness through asymmetry, big sag needed for that.

BillyBob has written a lot about the no-net Claytor, 10' long, 4' wide. So one thing you could try with the hammoc you have is a tighter pitch
and a more in-line lay.

If you look at the HH "model comparison" page you get fabric dimensions. The Explorer (which is at the large end, but not the largest) is cut 11' long, 5' wide.

A few people here have made HH clones, maybe a search will dig up the dimensions they used to cut their bags.

I made my first DIY this past weekend for my son. I was really a test hammock as I'm not too sure of the strength of the walmart fabic. Anyway, I used a rectangular piece approx 62" by 4yds. (Yes, I measured wrong). I ran the ridgeline HH style through the folds but on one end ran it out and secured to the support line with a tautline hitch. This let me adjust my ridgeline easily, which finally measured out to about 10'.
It's HUGE. My son called it the Canoe. Looks more like an Ark to me.

So, it is 12' w/ a ~10' ridgeline. An ark, indeed!

Did you sew the ends together and whip it like headchange did in his HH clone?

My other question is do you have a large flat sweet-spot that allows you to lay with your legs straight?

Mine has a very nice spot diagonally down the middle, but my legs cannot be straight, and my head is held up by the side. So, I think if I had more length(like 2 1/2 more feet), perhaps I would get a bigger sweet spot in the middle.

I did sew the ends about 8" to make the tubes. I also did the HH fold and whip, used a 60w soldering iron to make the holes.
Being short on the proper materials, I didn't feel comformable putting my weight in it, my son was the tester. Also, not knowing exactly where to put the tie-outs, I temporarily am using some paracord tied around a marble in the fold of the hem. Also using paracord for the ridgeline. Using some unknown strength rope from Lowes for the supports.
I took some pics yesterday, I'll try and post them tonight.

I'm experimenting with my DIY Speer. It's 10' 7" x 60" nylon supplex (fabric size). I untied the knots from the end and folded and whipped it as described by Rapt in this thread:

I am not using a ridgeline at all, but my sag is about what is shown in that thread. I think this method is definitely worth a try! I'm going to try the standard HH folding next, just to see what I'm missing, or not missing.
