I had a great hike on the Pigeon Roost Trail in NW Arkansas Saturday. I was jonesin' to try out my Warbonnet Mamajamba and my 40 degree Phoenix 3/4 underquilt. The plus 50 degree day diminished to a sub freezing evening and I was to learn the value of seasonal-appropriate gear. Still, hangin' is hangin' and hangin' is fun.

Nice report. I've pushed my 40 degree Phoenix down to high 20's and with a good foot pad was fine- not exactly warm, but not quite cold either.

You might want to consider Pauls new flame thrower socks from Arrowhead equipment.

Fun report. Been there, with cold feet myself. It's like you said, a process. There are plenty of tricks out there, with no wrong answers, just differant paths to take. Keep that smile on and enjoy the ride, even if your feet are a little on the cold side.
Besides, the expression goes: "cold feet, warm heart!"

I've found my Hammock Gear quilts are conservatively rated as well.
I bought a Gossamer Gear thinlight pad for a cheap way to bump up the warmth of my quilts. The pad also serves as my pack frame and sit pad.

main thing I do when stretching the limits of my setup is to stick a hot water bottle between my legs - warms the blood in the femoral artery and the warm blood warms my feet nicely
other things I do is to always put a piece of CCF pad under my heels and make sure my socks are dry or if questionable do without socks in the bag - actually better for keeping the feet warm in the bag than wearing socks IMO- kinda like the difference between gloves (socks separating the feet) and mittens (feet together warming each other)
just in general when temps get cold I also put my pack liner (a contractor's trash bag) between the UQ and the hammock - this helps reduce heat loss due to wind and convection
Cold Feet......if your not wearing your parks but it over the hammock foot end. works great.
