I like your snack! I'm always looking at new, no-cook stuff for the trail, and I think I might have to try that.

The gallon jug in the side pocket of your pack, is that an old orange juice container that you've repurposed for water?

As far as the ticks, there isn't much you can do about open skin in my opinion. However, (not sure about Aussie law here, so I don't know if it's available to you) there's an insecticide called Permethrin that works really well when applied to clothing and fabric gear. Living in Florida, I've yet to get a tick underneath my clothes when this stuff has been applied to 'em. It's non-toxic to humans once dried, only mildly toxic when still wet (in other words, don't drink the stuff and wear gloves during application), and works for about six weeks per application. If you have cats, though, be very careful to keep them away from where you do the application; it's very toxic to them while still wet. Once dry, though, it's not (I have cats, and they're no more neurotic now than when I started using the stuff).

Gra factor.....re the grass tree...just one on the head end, it was nice & thick plus I gave it a shoulder barge to test it & it didn't move an inch....

Buenos & Fl Rider......Just needed a change the usual sweet stuff, raisins, nuts & seeds, you'll be surprised what you find rummaging around
in the asian supermarkets. Lots of lightweight dried goods too.

Fl Rider... the gallon jug comes in handy for extra water capacity which you need on these dry summer ridge line walks. Used it to refill my camelback in my pack at the still flowing Laidley Falls on the way out. Enjoyed the cool morning shower too, watching the valley mist swirl with the air currents....
Thanks for the heads up on the Permethrin, I'll give it a try the next time I head out.

Mate, that looks like a great spot. Can you post some more details for a fellow Brisvegas resident? ie how long did does it take, best directions to get there etc or where can I find the info on it please?

It looks the end results of a hard hike would be well worth it!
