you could use it if you really had to....
but i would upgrade to something better sooner rather than later
maybe 2 of the 5x7 tarps from wally world there $10 a piece ... sew them together and you would have a nice tarp for $20... i seen another member do that and they worked nice for the money
i just think there is better options for a few $$ more

Doctari thats why i have not been over there in over a year LOL
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

Our walmart still hasn't gotten those nylon tarps yet. I love to pick up some to make a couple of winter tarps out of. Been wondering about painters canvas too??

In answer to the OP's post, I did it one time last winter, but as a secondary tarp under my leaking blue tarp, till I could replace it. I use a 16' X 12' brown "Blue tarp" as my winter shelter at home in winter. The shower curtain did just enough to stop the drips.
I think a shower curtain would be fun to use, get one with a real weird pattern on it for one of the car camping hangouts.
Suggestions for the guys: strawberry shortcake, Unicorns, flowers.
Suggestions for the gals: GI Joe, Terminator, Alien.
My son would kill me! It would sure be funny to switch a tarp out on him during the night and he wakes up to Strawberry Shortcake!!! To take it a step farther, he doesn't like to get up, so we could gather our chairs around him, and toss little pebbles at him while having our coffee. Could be quite a show. Yea, I'm one heck a role model

    Thumbs up

Here's a thread from a whiiiile back. It keeps me dry ( I might have to scrunch a bit ) but I'm in California so that's not saying much

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...weather+friend

I've since cut off the flaps (hemmed) and sewn on some proper tie outs, but it can be done w/o sewing for around $20 and still be somewhat durable. Might I suggest Bed Bath and Beyond, for selection.

P.s. Been rocking the shower curtain for a few years now. I just finished a DIY silnylon thing of beauty that I'm excited to try out on my next trip.

watched the video. He would have been in trouble in any rain. Really in trouble in rain and wind. Two shower curtains with an overlap, maybe. One blue plastic 8x10 would be a lot easier.
Grandma was not hammocking was she? With a shower curtain and a blanket start with a diagonal lay blanket, on top of the shower curtain, flip the foot in over your feet then each side in turn. You become a right cozy bundle fairly weatherproof.

    About Grandma Gatewood...

She was, undoubtedly tough for an old girl, but she was on the AT, and she did use her age to her advantage. She slept in AT lean-tos and on people's porches at times. She was not out in the weather every night. Of course, some of the AT shelters are not much shelter, but they were spaced nicely when she was hiking it. I'll bet she did not get crowded out of shelters by a troop of scouts either.

oooh woo what have I done... wow. Right off Medicine Man my humble apologizes. My comment was never about you - but my thinking was the thread in general - Monday morning QB I can see what I did. - no excuse.

My posts are not to correct on WB perhaps it happens occasionally. From my point of view its all about raising the bar or thought provoking never to entice people into an argument, I have a British 75 year old dad for that, and he's still winning.

Folks if I got you to think... then that's what blogging is about - never a cheap shot, I apparently did a cheap shot. -
There was an Old Man with a owl,
    Who continued to bother and howl;
He sat on a rail, And imbibed bitter ale,
Which refreshed that Old Man and his owl
