That's an interesting observation. I may have to test that (given my own sleeping style) sometime before the campout. Not that I mind carrying the SPE - it's light and packs easily - but the wing pads are bulky and kind of a pain.

I'm a very cold sleeper, but in fairness, that was the nest, 200 weight fleece top to bottom, and Capaline 3 top to bottom. I was thinking about insulation last night (for some strange reason) and contemplating replacing the fleece layer with something like the Montbell thermawrap, just based on the weight and compressibility, but the more I thought about it, compressibility is exactly what I don't want when I'm sleeping...still mulling that one over.
WRT the ccf pad, maybe a pad cut down to go from the top of the shoulder to the top of the thigh, say 35" by 20" with a 4" wing on each side. The head has a pillow, the feet could have the sit pad, the ccf w/wings would take care of the other pressure points. Should be warm and toasty!

I just picked up one of the Gossamer Gear Thinlight wide/long pads (28" x 76" x 1/4", 5-6 oz) and this thing is a lot more packable than a WalMart CCF pad ever thought about being. It is designed strictly for insulation not padding. I have not had the chance to try it in low temps, but my tests around the house seem promising.
You can feel it radiate heat back on the parts of the body touching the pad. It's kinda weird and hard to explain.
Can you post a link to the GGThinlight pad? Sounds promising.

Does this pad have the same surface "feel" as like a blue foam, or is it more/less sort of "grainy" feeling?

One thing I am concerned about on my thru is if I have to go to the ground. The cc pad is just better than nothing on a shelter floor. This would be a bigger problem with the GG pad. Yet another reason to stay away from shelters at night.
Someone either here or on WB glued 2 together. I was thinking about gluing one to a regular cc pad if I needed more width. That would give you some extra padding and insulation with the GG pad width. Probibly heavy and bulky though.

HE - Didn't you say you used a torso-length sit pad anyway? Back when I tarped, I normally only used a torso pad for comfort when it wasn't too cold. You could probably use the GG pad for warmth, with the short pad on top for padding...
