    Sign of the Times

In the past 40 years I've embarked on a number of hobbies and liesure pursuits (but never abandoning camping and hiking). I discovered that one sure sign I was going to be devoting a lot of time and energy on a new pursuit is pulling off the side of the road if I see some discarded item that might be useful.

    So

This evening, I pass a job site and do a U-Turn to go back to it. Why? I see pictures of guys with Tyvek on the ground under their dang hammocks to put their feet on and there's Tyvek on the walls. Now I need a hunk of it.

Worst part of it is that it was the cleanest dang jobsite I've ever seen. Not one scrap of Tyvek on the whole quarter acre that wasn't nailed to the wall. I did successfully resist the temptation to pull out the Swiss Army knife and carve of a couple square feet. Even the dumpster had been taken off the jobsite so I couldn't even go diving.

    Sigh--------

it is kinda hard to find Tyvek of usable size on job sites.
usually the only decent pieces come from the double door openings and large window openings.

Well, I was just trying to find one about three feet square. There's some houses going up on the route, too, so I'll just keep an eye out.

be persistent and ye shall succeed.
if you happen to be passing by when the guys are there working, stop in and as them for a piece. a lot of times they have some scraps in their trailer that they will let you have.

    Merry Christmas !

Haha...welcome to the club. "Hi, my name is Jeff and..."

One time I drove from Monterey, CA, to Fayetteville, NC...and stopped at almost every Walmart along the way to check for $1/yd fabric. I loaded up good! (And lots of olive drab, too.)

I split open a couple of large tyvek envelopes and taped them together. Then I found the end of the roll that had been in my garage for 20 years. I'm still using the taped envelopes.

I have to admit that laying on that jobsite was the remains of an old water bed and a matress cover----both had been in the rain and mud for the past two days. But what ran through my mind was : Tarp and Underquilt?
