Winter and heavy snow is delaying my cuben. Extreme snowfall and limited side dims have me choosing custom sil for the trips I take... ESP the majority of my basecamp winter hangs.

Cuben is becoming more appealing for when I'm concerned with pushing miles and the assumed weather will be more forgiving. I'm not a thru hiker, but love shaving weight.

Yep, that's exactly what I would do if I had it to do over. Good call Sidewinder! Will be looking forward to your gear review.

Makes one wonder how a foot extension the spanned the length of the side guy lines would work...or not. For that matter, a two foot wide one would make for ridgeline that would allow even the tallest hanger to stand upright as such an extension could drape straight down perpendicular to the ground.
I have been mulling over this exact idea for a while. I have an OES Standard and was thinking of a "negative" skirt which would wrap around the bottom area and allow me to pitch the tarp high while the skirt would take care of some of the wind below... hmmm...

Nice! Can't wait to see some pics of this tarp when its done. I really like the dimensions of my Superfly, but it would be nice to shave that tarp weight in half.

    Cheers

I thought about getting a winter tarp but after talking to Adam I changed my mind:
He's not going to make them for a while and they will cost more.
I don't plan on hiking much in the winter but wanted something I could close up if I got caught in an unexpected front or a blowing rain.
He suggested the 1 he's making now except without the cat cut and hanging low if I have to. (I'm short btw). So that's what I ordered. Great that he talks to you and listens to what you want.

I did seriously consider this as I much preferred to give my business to Adam & Jenny. However given the other tarps I already have and what I need this tarp to do (enclose my dog), I really needed a larger tarp in cuben. I still may end up getting the Hammock Gear tarp at some point. It's only money, right???
