    I am #1246!

Just ordered a 20F (-7C) 3/4 Phoenix. I have been using the HH super shelter but wanted to try a UQ. The HHSS left me a little cold too often.

My question is whether 20F implies 'While you're wearing a down jacket and thermal underwear" or whether I should be able to put it below my BB 1.1 DL and be comfy with my down bag used as a TQ.

Any tips for first time UQ users? Common mistakes? Special prep/treatment? Storage? I'm excited yet nervous.

Congrats on a fantastic choice! Waiting for a few more pieces myself.

The UQ rating depends a lot on you. I'm a warm sleeper. My 20 deg Phoenix keeps me warm well below that temp. I don't wear a lot of clothes while sleeping either, and match the UQ with a 20 TQ.

One trick I like to do, to ensure my UQ is snug and no air gaps, is add an S-biner to the line. I can slide it down towards the hammock to tighten it up, or go the other way to loosen it for the warmer nights. This really helps keep the warmth in for me.

I slept in my hammock with my 20 degree Hammock Gear UQ and TQ for the first time last night. The temperature got down to 33. I started out wearing long underwear, but had to strip down to shorts and a t-shirt because I was too warm. Cannot wait to try it down to 20 degrees.

    Thanks Danny

It took me a while to write that one up. It runs short because of the signature limit, which is part of the point. Ironically, Kierkegaard managed to make his point, "What is the nature of the change of coming into existence; for all other change presupposes the existence of that which changes."
