    Thread injector, grrrrr

So, I bought a Singer 2250. Got the thread all loaded in correctly or so I thought. Set it for a straight stitch and what happens? I get all jammed up and get a big ol' birds nest down where the bobbin feeds up from.

Is this a classic noob error? What did I do wrong? What can I do to correct this?

When it says to bring the thread back under the foot, should it be hard to get it under there?

    Thanks in advance!

for me, once I have loaded the bobbin and threaded the needle,
I hand crank the needle down one revolution,
pull on both ends of the needle thread to bring UP the bobbin thread.
(this should all be done with the presser foot in the up position).
Then, once your bobbin thread is coming UP through the hole/sliver
    under the foot,
pull both threads to the back of the machine
then you should be good to go.

When it says to bring the thread back under the foot, should it be hard to get it under there?
by doing the above, you will accomplish this.

if you don't do the above,
you wind up with a big 'ol mess.

and don't think running the needle more will help untangle it in a rough and
tough way. It will REALLY mess up your bobbin, needle, etc
um...don't ask me how I know

The top thread tension can cause the same kind of issue if it is too loose. Tighten it up some. It should originally start in the mid range and be finde tuned from there. Do not mess with the bobbin tension unless you know exactly what you aredoing and exactly why you are doing it.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Happened to me once when I used a metal bobbin stead of a clear plastic one.

Also it happened when I didnt thread the machine right.

What Rev said... top tension is likely too low...

+1 on the threading: there's a right and wrong way on the bobbin. Check your machine instructions.

Also, I have had better success with a right-sized needle and good thread. I had gobs of issues when using Coats and Clarks thread, and few with Gutterman's....

    Best of luck!

I never raised the foot up. Maybe I had it tangled from the start. Now I need to figure out how to raise the foot up.

Thank goodness my mom has a neighbor that is going to help teach me.

You can learn quite a bit by just watching someone who knows what they are doing. There is usually a long lever on the back side of the machine which raises the presser foot. Did you get a manual with this thing?

You start with the presser foot up. Place the upper and lower threads to the back. Place your fabric under the presser foot. Lower the presser foot onto the fabric. Start sewing.

It sounds like you had the foot down, started sewing and then fed the fabric under the foot. Wrong!

Make sure you get all of the birds nest removed. The bottom thread should pull out easily.

    That's exactly what I did.

I still occasionally get tangles. The best thing to do is stop, and rethread the bobbin. I found that in my cheap machine, the bobbin can spin, and run a loop around the bobbin shaft, or it may pull out of the bobbin case tensioner... pulling the bobbin and re-threading it fixes most of my problems...
