    Hammock stand vs. 4x4 posts?

I'm just about to take the plunge and order a WBBB for my first hammock. I definitely want to set it up in my backyard before I go out to the woods. (Don't want to look like a fool, laying on the ground, while my tent buddies laugh at me. ) I was planning on just burying some 4x4s with a concrete base for the test hang, but I see more posts about people building stands with angled posts and bracing. Would simple vertical 4x4s be good enough, or would the tension possibly pull them towards the center. I want a good test site, but I want to stay cheap. Just curious on what others use for test hangs.

I'm new to the hammock game so any inputs would be appreciated.

i am fortunate enough to have a park on the same block as my residence, so i test there. As far as stand vs. posts, i would choose posts IF i had the room and was able to set them deep enough to hand the load.

well sunk posts in concrete are a great permanent solution. You can take the compression stress off the posts if you also put in a pipe ridgeline between them. Not necessary if the posts are set well enough, but relatively cheap insurance.

Pipe ridge line? You mean a pipe run from post to post? What would be the best way to attach it? What distance apart and height would everyone recommend for the posts?

Spade bit same size as the pipe. Drill a 2" hole centered in the sides of the posts that will face each other slightly taller than your height (to keep from hitting your head when mowing, etc). Soft set the posts and set your pipe in the holes. Firm set the posts, then concrete.
