A lonely man without a sewing machine

Since I don't have a sewing machine I am looking for other ways to make a bugnet, ridgeline organizer, and anything else made out of bug netting.

My idea was to secure the edges of the bug netting with Gorilla Tape. Does anyone know if this may work or have any other ideas/ suggestions?

Not sure if it would work long term or not. When using it on plastic painters sheets it seems to slowly slide off of the material - I'm talking weeks here. That may be due to the adhesive not bonding well with the plastic. Maybe with bug netting it could adhere to itself through the gaps in the netting, it sure seems to like to stick to itself! Try it out and see how it works, and let us know.

    Other options:

    1. Sew it by hand. Not quick and easy, but will definitely hold it together.
    2. Super glue - run a bead of superglue and press the layers together. No idea if this would actually work or not. Might be too rigid once the glue dries, and slowly crack and break apart.
    3. Staples - staple 'em together. Staples (the household/office kind) would probably be lighter than duct tape. Might run into packability issues, and I'd be kind of scared having sharp metal edges anywhere near my nylon.

Personally I'd go with option #1.

Sew by hand, use backstitch. Don't make your thread too long or the darn thing will just tangle up and make you Very Angry.
Start with the organizer: nice small project.

Yep. It's not hard. Just load up several small "bites" of material onto the needle, then pull through. You can cover an inch or more per needle this way. It goes surprisingly fast. Like this:

You can do it!!! Good luck!!!!

You may be able to use grosgrain ribbon and hot glue, if you have access to a glue gun Lay down the grosgrain, line up the netting edges, lay the netting edge to the center of the grosgrain, lay a bead of glue, then fold the ribbon over. This will be a little stiff at the edges.
An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.

My personal opinion, stay away from the glue for any long term project. All the flexing and bending will be too much for most glues or tapes.

Sew it by hand, its a good skill to learn and it can come in handy on the trail.
Buy some needles, pins and thread.
    Cut your patterns out.
    Pin it together.
    Start a sewin'.
Make it look as good as you can.

Do the suggested ridgeline organizer. Then a stuff sack. By then you'll have a feel for the stitching pattern. Then on to the bigger projects like the bugnet.

Or you'll break down and buy a machine..lol.

For my WB Traveller I just draped approximately a 10 x 6 sheet of bug netting
over the ridge line . Then used some elasticated hair bands ( could use rubber bands , shock cord loops ) to tie the bug net to the gathered ends . Tie where the two corners meet below the gathered ends , I use hair ties and small smooth rocks to help weigh the net down in the breeze. Get into your hammock and be amazed at how well the net stretches and seals around your hammock , fine tuning can be done by moving the placement of where you tie the rocks to the netting. I use an UQ with a shock cord suspension system , that helps keep the netting sealed overnight.

    Total Cost $7

I haven't read of any one else doing this so I thought I could give back a little for all the tips I've learned on this site

Biker, that sounds like an easy way to rig the bug net
